Bought a item for a friend and it didn't work and they would not return or exchange it even with a reciept. Manager was short with us.

Hmm...so many questions. Was the receipt within 30 days of purchase?

Was it for an item that is listed on the receipt as non-returnable (clearance item, food, monogram, etc)? Don't play victim without telling the whole story - there must be more to this situation than what you've shared.
